Campo della Maddalena

Description

From Campo della Maddalena, certainly one of the most typical of Venice, you can see sixteenth century buildings with picturesque chimneys and a sixteenth century well. It is one of the most typical places in the Cannaregio district, right next to the busy Strada Nuova. Click here to see the Campo on Google Street View.

Etching on zinc plate. The techniques used are:
Aquaforte etching, to get the lines of the drawing
Aquatint, to get the nuances and give a sense of depth.
The chalcography was then coloured by hand using the watercolor technique. The abbreviation P.d.A. at the bottom left, instead of the serial number, means “artist’s proof” (P.d.A. “Prova d’Artista”).
Printed with chalcographic ink on rosaspina ivory paper.
