Madonna dell’Orto

 50,00

Description

Madonna dellโ€™Ortoย is a church inย Venice,ย Italy, in theย sestiereย ofย Cannaregio.

It was initially dedicated toย St. Christopher, patron saint of travellers, but its popular name suggesting consecration toย Holy Virgincomes from the following century, when an allegedly miraculous statue of the Madonna, commissioned for the Church of S. Maria Formosa but rejected, was brought to the Church from the nearby orchard (ortoย in Italian) where it had languished (source:ย https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madonna_dell%27Ortoย ).

Etchingย on zyncย matrix. The techniques used are:

โ€“ Aquaforte etching, to get the lines of the drawing
โ€“ Aquatint, to get the nuances and give a sense of depth.

They are the result of my own personal study of the architectural elements of Venice reflected in the water.

Printed with cahlcographic ink on rosaspina paper.

Paper size: 6.9ย x 9.8 inches
Image size: 3.8 x 5.8ย inches

The artwork may look slightly different from photos. Small imperfections or irregularities add to the handmade charm, distinguishing this piece from mass-produced prints
