Fondamenta della Misericordia – Watercolor etching

Description

Fondamenta della Misericordiaย (foundation of the Misericordia) is a โ€œstreetโ€ in Venice, in Cannaregio district, near the Scuola Grande della Misericordia.ย It runs parallel to the Rio de la Misericordia, one of the main canals of Cannaregio.

โ€œFondamentaโ€ means โ€œfoundationโ€ in Italian, and it describes the walking bank along a canal. It was (and still is today) a popular area to load and unload boats, kind of like a dock.

The chalcography was then coloured by hand using the watercolor technique. The abbreviation P.d.A. at the bottom left, instead of the serial number, means โ€œartistโ€™s proofโ€ (P.d.A. โ€œProva dโ€™Artistaโ€).

Printed with chalcographic ink on rosaspina ivory paper.

Paper size:ย 7 x 9.8 inches
Print size:ย 3.8 x 5.8 inches
