Madonna dell’Orto

 50,00

Description

Madonna dell’Orto is a church in VeniceItaly, in the sestiere of Cannaregio.

It was initially dedicated to St. Christopher, patron saint of travellers, but its popular name suggesting consecration to Holy Virgincomes from the following century, when an allegedly miraculous statue of the Madonna, commissioned for the Church of S. Maria Formosa but rejected, was brought to the Church from the nearby orchard (orto in Italian) where it had languished (source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madonna_dell%27Orto ).

Etching on zync matrix. The techniques used are:

– Aquaforte etching, to get the lines of the drawing
– Aquatint, to get the nuances and give a sense of depth.

They are the result of my own personal study of the architectural elements of Venice reflected in the water.

Printed with cahlcographic ink on rosaspina paper.
